What does Brexit even mean?

Yesterday you might have woken up to a bunch of people pretending to be experts on the European Union and what it means that Britain voted to leave it. You should ignore these people.

But it’s an interesting time. It can be concerning, and especially so for those living in the UK (which now seems like a bit of an inconsistent name). I got calls and emails from people who were worried about how these global changes would affect them financially, and the only truthful answer I could give was, “I don’t know, but…”

I don’t know, but…“–this is a powerful statement. It’s a statement which doesn’t hide from uncertainty and isn’t dogmatic about an unknowable, complex future. It’s also a statement that expresses contentment–it says, “Yes, I can see there is something scary or weird or crazy happening, BUT I’m okay. I have a plan, and I can do nothing to influence these events other than be prepared. Which I am.”
