Whether you’ve got a fitness goal in mind, a book you’re writing, or investment accounts you’re looking at, always lean toward trends instead of individual data points.
When we weigh ourselves constantly, when we’re checking our word count over and over again, and certainly when we find ourselves pulling our phone out to peek at the stock market every 30 minutes–that obsession with data points is actually detrimental to the goal at hand.
Instead, think about progress over time. And when I say time, I mean, move away from a default unit of time in seconds and minutes and hours, and move toward weeks, months, and years. You’ll feel better, and do better, this way.
