Cards vs. cash

It may be easier to pay with card than cash, but I blow through cash in my pocket like there’s no tomorrow.

The reason is simple: I track my credit and debit card transactions through a budgeting software, because, you know, awareness. But once that ATM spits out a few twenties? No way to easily track what I do with those bills. I mean I guess I could carry around a cute Moleskine to pencil in those transactions manually, but there’s no way in hell I’m doing that.

So, the first thing is, if you see me at an ATM, it’s probably a good time to ask me to lunch or coffee, because I will almost definitely pay for you.

The second thing is, each of us has our own struggles. Lots of people have a harder time spending cash than paying with a card. I’m just not one of those people. And that’s okay! The key is to figure out where your weaknesses are and care for yourself accordingly.
