Take things to Goodwill

I typed “how to declutter” into the magical Google search box and got more than 3.5 million results (in 0.30 seconds!!). But, um, you don’t really need to read any of those articles. You don’t even need to read this one.

Just, go find some things to give away to Goodwill. It’s not difficult. You just pick a room, and find things in that room you don’t use or care about or need, and then you take those things and put them in a bag. And then the next day you drive the bag to Goodwill (or your thrift store of choice).

Doing this habitually will accomplish several things, all of which are great:

  1. Your home will be less cluttered
  2. Your mind will be less cluttered
  3. Your buying habits will change, because you’ll start to recognize the sorts of things that end up going to Goodwill most often, and you just skip buying those sorts of things in the first place
  4. People who don’t have money to buy new things will be able to buy used things, and people who have money to buy new things but don’t care about whether they’re new will be able to buy used things
