Scrolling spending

Sometimes our spending becomes like the mindless scrolling we often engage in with our phones. When this happens, I think there are a couple of things that can be helpful:

  1. Fasting. It can be healthy (and even fun, in a way) to try a fast, where you might pick a category of spending and go without spending in that category for a period of time.
  2. Curiosity. Pick up some books, listen to some podcasts, or watch some YouTube videos on a subject that is interesting to you and try to pick up some knowledge that you might share with a partner, child, or friend.

Both of the above are basically a tactical way to get our minds back into the game, kick-starting our awareness and focusing our boredom not on another meaningless transaction but instead a useful adventure of sorts.
