Finish the last lap

You can do lots of work with (and pay a not insignificant amount of money to) an estate attorney in order to plan for how your assets will pass to heirs, but most of the time that involves a very simple and final step of updating account beneficiaries. If you don’t, much of the planning you did will be meaningless. This is like spending months planning an international trip and realizing as you arrive at the airport that you never got a passport.

The complex planning is important and necessary, but don’t forget to finish the last lap.
