Sometimes the height of wisdom is simply knowing when to stop doing too much of a good thing. To know that it is possible to over-optimize, and to resist the temptation to do so.
You will not find this wisdom in a spreadsheet, or a chart, or an account balance. The combined powers of CNBC, The Wall Street Journal, and Reddit will not publish it for you.
Part of the wisdom is found in recognizing that when we over-optimize for good things, we often do so at the expense of the best things: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and so on.
